Fasten your seat belts, Bill will present the equivalent of a two day class on woodturning finishes in a little over an hour. Topics will include: Definition of a finish … what is and what is not a “finish” Functionality and utility considerations for finishes Repairability and maintenance What are “Food safe” finishes? Classes of finishes including evaporative finishes (lacquer, shellac, water-based), Reactive Finishes (True Oils: [tung, linseed, walnut]), catalyzed lacquer, varnishes, others that undergo a chemical change Specific finishes: walnut oil, linseed oil, tung oil, Danish Oil finishes, varnishes, Waterlox, wiping polyurethane, lacquer, catalyzed lacquer, friction polishes, French Polish, Paints, Milk Paint, cyanoacrylic acid (CA) Application: off lathe and on lathe Drying and curing time and processes Waxes And list of finishes, item by item and what I think are pluses and minuses
